What is PVoC?
The Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) is a conformity assessment programme administered by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). It requires that regulated products meet Kenyan standards before they are exported to Kenya.
Products Requiring PVoC
Electronics and electrical products are among the most strictly regulated. These include televisions, computers, mobile phones, cables, chargers, power adapters, LED lights, and household appliances.
The PVoC Process
- Identify if your product is on the KEBS regulated products list
- Apply to a KEBS-appointed inspection agent in the country of origin
- Products are tested against applicable Kenya Standards
- A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is issued for conforming products
- The CoC must accompany the shipment to Kenya
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Products arriving without a valid CoC are detained at the port of entry, subjected to mandatory testing (at importer's cost), and may be destroyed or re-exported if they fail to meet standards.
